Steam tails of iron1/12/2023 ![]() ![]() An expansive RPG experience - filled with NPC quests, compelling characters, epic boss battles, and rich, immersive narrative - we rats must band together to overcome a new evil in this faroff land. The Lords of the Fallen introduces an all-new adventure in a vast, interconnected world, more than five times larger than the original game. It's just stuff that you pick up because it's there. I quickly stopped caring about new gear, and after that, nothing else matters. Worse, the "upgrades" all feel incredibly incidental and nothing feels satisfying. Every decision is just damage/defence vs weight, and honestly there's nothing interesting to it and never ever a reason to not always choose the higher damage/defence item. Progression is standard gear collection, but without any meaningful depth. Attacking is a simple combo string followed by a delay. Three of your actions are defensive, and poorly implemented. Attacking, dodging, blocking (arrows exclusively), and parrying. ![]() ![]() It all feels very unsatisfying and arbitrary.Īnd that's it. Dodging doesn't appear to have invincibility frames, so it's not actually about timing them, it's purely about avoiding the attack, and totally possible to dodge through/into the attacks area of effect, taking the full hit. Some attacks are telegraphed with the colored red/yellow indicators (indicating that you should dodge/parry), and others aren't, with no discernable rhyme or reason as to why. Parries only work if you press the button nearly half a second before the attack. Gameplay revolves entirely around combat and combat is clunky and irrational. Unfortunately, Tails of Iron just isn't fun. ![]()
